Grace to Overcome Delay
Anchored in Psalm 90:14 — "O satisfy us early with your mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days" — Rev. Koye-Ladele addresses one of the most quietly devastating experiences in the life of a believer: the prolonged wait for something deeply desired and long believed for. He begins by defining delay in both natural and spiritual terms, noting that it causes heart sickness, forced postponement, and the wasting of time, before turning to Daniel 10 to show that some delays have a spiritual origin — an unseen warfare in the heavenly realm that only persistent prayer and divine intervention can break through. Three causes of delay are examined: ignorance, illustrated by a couple whose years of pregnancy loss were resolved through simple medical knowledge they had never been given; unknown spiritual forces, as Daniel experienced; and a third cause left implicit in the manuscript. The sermon then offers four ways to overcome delay: effectual fervent prayer as Hannah modelled; aggressively acting in faith as Sarah did when she received strength to conceive past the age of expectation; patiently waiting without wavering as Abraham did until he obtained the promise; and diligence at one's God-given assignment. The message is woven throughout with bold prophetic declarations over the congregation, commanding every spiritual force of delay to be broken.
